True bravery is often demonstrated when a person is willing to overcome obstacles by taking risks and overcoming their fears to pursue their goal. In the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, the main character who struggles with autism Christopher is a very curious individual and shows a great amount of bravery throughout the novel. Christopher shows a great amount of bravery investigating the killer of his neighbor's dog. When Christopher finds out his mother is still alive he conquers his fears and is brave enough to go find her. This novel starts off with a mystery as Christopher finds his neighbor's dog killed with a garden fork punctured through him. Christopher the curious boy he is starts to investigate the incident, moments later the police arrive and Christopher is brought to the police station where he is questioned. Christopher stays very calm and is very brave in the police station: “It was nice in the police cell... I wondered how I would escape if I was in a story... I decided that my best plan would be to wait for a really sunny day and then use my glasses to focus the sunlight on a piece of clothing and start a fire. I would then make my escape when they saw the smoke and took me out of the cell”(Haddon 14). After being questioned for killing his neighbor's dog he decided to investigate to find the killer of the dog Wellington. After a couple of days of investigating his dad told him to stop looking into the case but that didn't stop Christopher as the brave individual he is he went around the neighborhood and started looking for more clues and started asking his neighbours after a couple of days went by and his dad had opened up to Christopher saying he had killed the dog Wellington. Christopher got scared and decided to be brave enough to leave home. I had to get out of the house. Father had murdered Wellington. That meant he could murder me, because I couldn't trust him, even though he had said "Trust me," because he had told a lie about a big
