In the Curious Incident of the Dog in the night-time, the character, Siobhan, is the most influential character to Christopher, because she is helpful and caring; which helps Christopher understand what is happening in the world around him; with social and environmental skills. One of the main characteristics of Siobhan is being helpful. In the beginning of the book, we find out that Christopher is different from most children and has a special disability, autism, making it hard for him too keep up with normal activities. Christopher said, “I got Siobhan to draw lots of faces and then write down next to them exactly what they meant.” (Haddon, 3). Christopher’s dad hits him after Christopher continues to find out who killed Wellington. Christopher says, “When I went to school on Monday, Siobhan asked me why I had a bruise on the side of my face.” (Haddon, 90). Based off the evidence from the text, we know that Siobhan cares about what happens to Christopher at his house and what his dad has done to him. In addition to Siobhan caring about wheat Christopher’s father has done to Christopher, she also cares about Christopher’s education. Siobhan tells Christopher that he doesn’t have to take his level A math test if he doesn’t want to, because Siobhan knows that he is tired and not emotionally prepared to take the test. Siobhan says, “You don’t have to do it, Christopher. If you say you don’t want to do it no one is going to be angry with you. (Haddon, 212).
