After reviewing the current list of issued posted on the American Civil Liberties Union’s website the category of most personal interest was LGBT Rights. LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. ACLU’s website also breaks LGBT rights down into smaller categories regarding parenting, relationships, and youth just to name a few. People of all ages and religions classifying under LGBT have suffered from violations of their human rights. Curiosity was drawn to these topics, as experience and personal sexual orientation have been directly affected in the past 20 years of my existence, and the progress has been extremely successful. Increasing the growth of individual support and such similar cases arose quickly all over the country, almost becoming an inevitable fact in the future. Finally, it happened, all the work paid off of on June 26, 2015. A historical ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges expanded what were the previous 37 states and Washington, DC, to expand the recognition of gay marriages in all 50 states constituting the same rights and benefits as heterosexuals. The court clearly stated that, “the conclusion that the right to marry is a fundamental right inherent in the liberty of the person, and under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment couples of the same-sex may not be deprived of that right and that liberty” (Robinson). Although ACLU stated it best, as we continue the fight daily to ensure full implementation of the Obergefell decision and equal protection for LGBT families. Each and every court case has served its purpose in history, whether it held a historical significant or not, everyone who stood up for what they believed in had a small contribution to improving LGBT relationships as well as the supporters. There may always be groups against the issue, although the majority of the time love always wins and everyone has a right to an opinion. The support is more than likely to increase over the years, as the social norm will begin to take place even more than currently. In hopes for a bright future, all issues will be resolved and LGBT’s will no longer be singled out as a different group or population, as we are all created
