Curfew Persuasive Essay

Teenagers want to be able to stay out later and have fun. If the curfew is changed before 10 p.m. then many teens might sneak out and get in trouble. During teen years you should be having fun and living life without a care. If they’re forced to go in earlier then they could possibly sneak out and get in trouble. I believe they should keep the curfew after 10 p.m. Firstly, teens that have a job would have to leave early. The less they work, the less money they make. Some teens support their families with the jobs they have. If the curfew is before 10, teens with no be able to participate in their full work day and not be able to provide for their family. Secondly, many school events, such as sport games, end around 10 p.m.

Nora Gold states that curfew laws take away some of the civil rights that teens and young adults have as Americans. Gold states in her essay, “The most obvious constitutional problem is that curfews grant police the power to detain citizens for nothing more than appearing young.” This quote is stating that curfew laws punish anyone who is out after a certain time just because they look young. This also gets in the way of teens who work night shifts for their job or even just being outside their house on the sidewalk (Gold, Nd). Another thing that curfew laws violate are some rights that the teens have from the first amendment, which are not allowing them to go to religious services and even meeting for school that take place at night (Gold,…

It can also affect many school activities with having to start later and end sooner since the day ends faster. Teens shouldn’t be affect with these possibilities of not being in an activity because the later changes. There has been a non-scientific survey that has reported 50 percent of parent that have agree or are undecided with the new time changes and 60 percent of staff agreed with the change. I believe that parents think it’s right for their children to start later or earlier because of the evidence that they have been provided about their children academic improvement. Staff had worked in school with the children and they might also believe it is right because it can change their school education but they don’t understand that it can affect the different schools because it will not be the same times for all…

Schools should start later in the morning due to the fact that teens can possibly get better grades and that teens were made to wake up later. Teens wouldn't just deal with stress, they would notice things that they cannot control. Teens are not getting the learning experience they need to become doctors, lawyers etc. Many people believe that school should stay the way it is or problems will start to come. I disagree because if things don't start changing, then kids will never be able to do better in school.…

The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

Many parents allow their child under the age of 18 to be out past 11 pm. I strongly believe the law should have no part into setting a curfew for children, their parents should strictly be the ones to do that. T.M vs. State of Florida In this case I am for the strict interpretation of the laws because the right to have freedom of assembly is very important. Every American should have equal rights but the person that is in charge, just like the guardian of the minor should be able to restrict these rights.…

High School and Middle School Days Should Start Later Should middle school and high school days start later in the day? In my opinion, I don't think it should. The school day should not change their time later in the day. There may be really good pros to the idea, but there are also plenty of cons for delaying the school start times. These cons can affect both students and the teachers.…

When teenagers get cars, they need to be able to pay for the gas, insurance and other expenses. Therefore, they need to get a job. However, to handle a job and your schoolwork is tricky. Having that extra hour, students could have time to relax and wouldn't feel as rushed to do everything they have to do. According to Sickmund, Snyder, and Poe-Yamagata, (1997), and Snyder, & Sickmund, (1999), “approximately 57 percent of all violent juvenile crime occurs on school days…..and peaks in the evening between 8:00PM and 10:00PM on non-school days” (qtd. In Sutphen & Ford, p. 60). Unless, the teenager is at work or with a parent/guardian, curfew should be around 8PM on school and non-school nights. There is currently a debate going on right now about times with curfew and whether or not one should be kept in place. This debate is happening all over the United States, not just in Indiana.…

But is it possible to prioritize a teen’s safety without making them feel smothered by limiting rules? In this day and age, teenagers are becoming more social- both through the internet and in person- and would want to be out late to experience all this rapidly changing world has to offer; but as the sky darkens and crowds disperse, the safety net teens have during the daytime quickly vanishes. When this happens, the safest place to be is home. With that in mind, should curfews be later or earlier? Should there be exceptions to the rule, or should there be one consistent…
