The enforcement of curfews for teenagers have been mentioned countless times by adults. Whether it's from school administrators during school hours, parents distributing privileges, or malls not allowing teens under 18 in at a certain time . And ever so often a fair amount of adolescents complain and declare that these restrictions as foolish and meaningless. That's why a debate is brought forth about whether or not adopting a 10 pm weekday and 12 am weekend curfew for teenagers is the right choice. The city may see it as a way to maintain trouble, but teenagers may interpret it as an act of mistrust. Believe it or not these curfews may save many lives. During the daytime everyone is out and about and there are plenty of witnesses to see a person in a dangerous situation. But when the sun goes down everyone has retired to their homes and there are less people around to guarantee one's safety. In Hampton Roads, there are numerous reports of shootings, kidnappings, and amber alerts. The victims of kidnapping are mostly around adolescent age. It isn't necessarily a vulnerable age but it isn't a matured age either. Teenagers have the capability of being smart; but, they're at an age where their frontal lobes in their brains haven't fully developed. They don't think like adults who have already experienced multiple situations, they're still learning. This curfew can build a safer environment for the community, especially for us teenagers who may make rebellious decisions or reckless ones that may be life threatening and could potentially ruin our youth. It may seem inane but this curfew can also indirectly improve unhealthy lifestyles and maintain better ones. These days most teens are allowing their grades to slip. We could blame it on the phase of laziness. But lets get the facts straight, academics and sleep definitely
