Curfew for Teens For most teens, their high school years are the best years of their lives. These are the years that teens should be able to go out and enjoy, instead of being trapped in the house because of a curfew. Though the nine o’clock curfew will get teens at home at a safe time, it still has its flaws. Enforcing this curfew could cause problems, such as, effecting teens who have jobs, needing more law enforcement, and limiting time for social activity. For many teens, parents want them to have a job because it teaches them about the future. USA Today, states that 44 percent of teens have a job. For most high school students, when they aren’t participating in a school activity, they are working a job. Local restaurants such as Tia Juanita’s, Mi Pueblo, and Joe’s Pizza and Pasta all close after nine o’clock on week nights. All of the employees on the last shift have to stay to clean up the restaurant and prepare for the next day, therefor, they actually leave around ten at night. For some teens, the …show more content…
Just imagine how many officers would have to be out patrolling for the curfew. The sheriff’s office would have to send out many more officers and town police, to make sure that no teens are out after nine. As a result of having so many officers for the curfew, it could cause Jasper Country to lose thousands of dollars. The town of San Jose had to add close to one million dollars in their new police payroll for their curfew. Not only would it affect the money, but it would also affect the crime rate. If all of the night officers were out watching for teens out past their curfew, it could cause a higher crime rate. The Freeport police department stated, “It ties up the police and keeps them babysitting”.
