Life without parole sounds fine for a 35-year-old man who commits a heinous crime, right? What about life without parole for a 15-year-old boy? That is my question I am wrestling with in this essay. I’m wondering how severe of a punishment is appropriate for adolescents. Studies have shown that people under the age of 18 are not capable of making major decisions and are unable to think properly.…

From the Article “Return the Drinking Age to 18, and Enforce It” by Gabrielle Glaser, the author argues that the drinking age should be returned to eighteen, and enforced heavily. In the article, she argues that the current system which only allows people who are twenty-one and older to purchase and drink alcohol is forcing high school and college kids to partake in risky binge drinking behavior. Also, she compares today’s drinking attitude of underage kids to the attitude of people in the prohibition era. In the prohibition era, there were speakeasies. The goal at these places was to drink as much and as soon as possible, because no one ever knew when the police would show up.…

A juvenile is a young person who are below the age of 18 accused. Based on some cases, they should also be considered as an adult. In June 25, 2012; the Supreme Court has made a ruling that juveniles who commit murder cannot be given life in prison. Four justices strongly disagree with this ruling, saying how juveniles should always be punished for their crimes from how heinous they are. In my opinion, I believe that juveniles should not receive life in prison under certain circumstances.…

The tragic truth is that crashes are the number one cause of death for people between the ages of 15 to 20 in the United States of America. Anna Quindlen’s essay “Driving to the Funeral” went into the dangers of teen driving, by showing parents not being strict enough with their kids, the poor enforcement of the law, and teenagers being too irresponsible. Even though, there are many teens that were injured or even worse killed, parents are still taking the right of driving very easily onto their kids. Mrs. Quindlen said “Parents seem to treat the right of a 16-year-old to drive as an inalienable one.” Mrs. Quindlen criticized parents very heavily on allowing their kids to drive at such a young age.…

In the article Death Penalty for Teens, Frank W. Heft JR thinks that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment for teens. While David Smith thinks that the death penalty for teens is not cruel and unusual punishment, they both have different views points about this matter and they do not agree. Heft and Smith disagree on juvenile capital punishment in three different areas, physical maturity which includes age, state law versus federal law, and emotional maturity that refers to the ability to understand, and manage their emotions and the ability to respond to the environment in the appropriate manner. Because of their disagreement on age maturity, and emotional maturity, federal law and states law, it leaves the reader undecided…

The article On Punishment and Teen Killers by Jennifer Bishop Jenkins speaks about how we here in the United States although we do give teenage murderers very big sentences that make them spend the rest of their life in prison we still respect their human rights. We do not imprison children nor torture and hurt the offenders, we simply are not letting their crimes go in vain. The authors purpose is to let us know that all though many people believe that teenagers who commit crimes should have a smaller sentence because of the way and the time it takes for their minds to develop. In fact she even states the following, "If brain development were the reason, then teens would kill at roughly the same rates all over the world. They do not.…

Change the Legal Driving Age It is being continually expressed by the older generations that we as teens are reckless, thoughtless, and dangerous drivers. That we are just causing more problems for our parents, pedestrians, and other drivers as well. We are destroying the meaning of ‘safe’ of in our towns with our accidents and problems. The solution the ‘adults’ have come up with is to possibly change the legal driving age to a higher age.…

Many parents allow their child under the age of 18 to be out past 11 pm. I strongly believe the law should have no part into setting a curfew for children, their parents should strictly be the ones to do that. T.M vs. State of Florida In this case I am for the strict interpretation of the laws because the right to have freedom of assembly is very important. Every American should have equal rights but the person that is in charge, just like the guardian of the minor should be able to restrict these rights.…

Teens have been causing trouble by being rude and trashing places but teens know what they are supposed to do so that is how it is violence. A teen should know right from wrong and if they still choose to do wrong the are going to have consequences that may be pretty bad because they know how to do stuff and if they don’t then that would be a whole different story.…

Reflection Paper: Juvenile Curfews and Courts Throughout the reading of “Juvenile Curfews and Courts,” Hemmens & Bennett outlines, and interprets the development of juvenile courts, and if curfews are an efficient tool to have within society. The author stresses that juvenile curfews treat children as second-class citizens that need to be protected more than adults, curfews threaten the exercise of a number of rights, and that by adopting these regulations it is a sign of public hysteria rather than a reasoned response to juvenile crime and delinquency. Data, and court cases examined by Hemmens & Bennett, suggested that juvenile curfews violated the first amendment rights of minors, violated their right to travel, infringed on parents’…
