Psyche holds a knife and light up to her husband while he sleeps. Seeing her normal husband, Psyche rejoices. In return, Psyche’s husband Cupid wakes up and witnesses Psyche betray his trust. Understanding the lack of trust, Cupid flees and leaves Psyche all alone. Psyche, looking for Cupid, goes to Venus seeking assistance. Psyche offers herself as a servant to Venus. In stage six, Venus sends Psyche on many tests where Psyche encounters many helpers. For the first test, Psyche sorts infinitesimal seeds with the assistance of ants. Venus then sends Psyche to obtain golden fleece sheep wool. Instead of rushing the sheep, Psyche uses the fence to catch the sheep’s wool. Angrily, Venus sends Psyche to fill a flask full of black water from the river styx. Needing wings to reach the water, an eagle swooped down and grabbed the flask to fill it for Psyche. Shocked, Venus sends Psyche on the last mission. Psyche must enter the underworld and obtain a box of beauty from Proserpine. Psyche encounters a guide in a tower who lays out the journey for Psyche. In Psyche’s inner most cave, stage seven, Psyche opens Proserpine’s box loaning to obtain more beauty for Cupid. To Psyche’s surprise, the box holds nothing.
