When my parents go grocery shopping, my mother is most likely going to cook Italian food and my father is going to cook Mexican food. They both share similar norms of socialization. Even though the Italian and Mexican cultures are different, my mother and father both get the ingredients they need in order to make the dishes they want within their cultures. They are still going grocery shopping in American stores. The reality is, both of my parents intend to preserve their culture in many ways they can. Just like when my grandmother comes from Mexico. My grandmother being in America, she has her own way to preserve her culture whenever she cooks or goes grocery shopping. Showing that she is well prepared. Does not matter if she is in America. I personally have two warm cultures that I feel it is surviving until this day. Having an Italian or Mexican background, everyone that is exposed to this culture influences one another. Just as any other culture. Cultures in general, at the end of the day, “we all have a conditioning influence on our behavior of the groups and societies of which we are members”, according to Emile Durkheim. Food as well, there is always a reason why we eat the same traditional foods whether it is every weekend, once a month or once a year. We intend to go back to eat what our parents or grandparents made us, if it is not home. Whenever we have a chance to get something to eat traditionally we get it. Perhaps, you go to a restaurant within any culture. You can still eat what your grandmother made as a traditional dish once or try something new. For example, whenever my mother does not have time to make homemade cannolies, I still can get them at a pastry shop. Similarly, when I miss my favorite beef soup my father makes which is called “Caldo.” I can go to a Mexican restaurant and eat the same thing. I know that we all are conserving our traditions
