Co-Culture And Intercultural Communication

There are several co-cultures to which one can belong. The co-cultures that I relate to are female, African American, middle-class, a border between generation X and the new millennial. I am a 34 year old mother of two boys and I am not a stay at home mom. I relate to most young mothers here in American when it comes to being a young black women who are raising African American males. The most important thing to me is being a mother to African American young black males. My sons are very special to me and I play an important role in their lives. We live in high-poverty and high-crime area and I have to always make sure they are busy with sports are other activities. I would not feel comfortable limiting myself to only one co-culture …show more content…
Living in a diverse society that have different ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds, it will be nice to learn how to communicate with different co-cultures.(2015) By expressing your own cultural differences and showing others that they are equal helps individuals to communicate on a positive note. As long as individuals from all walks of life show each other love and respect, acceptance will follow. Intercultural communication is very important to your culture and the way you were raised. In my household my mother were big on respect and one of her rules were not to allow children to be in the same room when grown-ups would come over. She would teach us to always respect a person no matter what race they were. Sometimes being from different cultures can affect communication. Some cultures are friendly and cooperative toward strangers while others are openly hostile. In this neighborhood in which I live, there are several Indian store owners that are really detached from American cultural and only deal with the people because they want their business.
