According to Norbert Elias, the sensibilities have changed since the medieval times due to the changes in a society cultural attitudes about conduct. He believes that overtime a humans behavior changes along with the changing world around them. Elias notes that there are many societal changes within a person we need to first address before relating it to punishment.
