How Does Culture Shape Our Identity

Culture defines people’s values, beliefs, and personal interests. It allows myself and others to maintain an identity in society, which I believe is important. We are the people we are today because of our upbringings. Culture plays a huge role in shaping our identity. It also determines long term choices and sets you apart from everyone else. My home culture and values, challenges in school culture, and the support system around me will be carried with me for the rest of my life. Culture is where we come from and who we are or going to be. It makes myself a unique, interesting individual. I find home culture important because it allows myself to be me. I grew up around a large warm welcoming family. My two sisters and brother are all older than me. Being the baby of the family, I found myself to be more accountable. I saw the way my parents disciplined my siblings, and realized that was not a way I wanted to justify my actions growing up. Many times I watched my two sisters run after boys and sneak around, or hear about how my brother got in trouble at school again. My father has been my role model my entire life. He has and continues to teach me everything I know today. The family unit is important to an upbringing of any individual. Much of what I learned is through my guardian and implementing a strong support system prepares me for a culture outside my home culture. I am glad for each culture change I have been through. Not only learning the different cultures, but sharing them as well. Expressing each unique detail interest me. I enjoy coming home and telling my father what new value I learned, or what new person I meant. College creates many chances for me to a make new friends. Joining clubs or attending all my classes, I meet new people everyday. These experiences further my knowledge and
