Humanity’s Mother Culture separates humans from the rest of the natural life on earth, yet we all abide from the same natural laws. So what makes us any better? Our conscience and intellect separates us from other animals, but we are still animals and connected to nature. If we disrupt the natural laws, then we see ourselves as more than the rest of the planet. We put our own worth on a pedestal, and undermine the consequences that we have with our tunnel vision views. Singer and Regan do not acknowledge that humans are animals, and we can also cause our extinction. While the rights view tells us how to treat animals with their own worth and to leave wild animals alone, it also fails to acknowledge how if we were truly equal we would help a dying breed. If human kind were to be endangered, we would do everything we could to help repopulate. So why just leave endangered species alone then, why not help them regrow into what they truly can be? “Ishmael” is one of the most thought provoking novels I have read. Every few sections I had to put the book down to really think about what I just read. It made me question everything I have been told about what to do with my life. I was always told to find a job that would do the world better, referring to a science or other industrialized career. Realistically, we live in a Taker society where everything revolves around money. We cannot survive in this society with out money. The world is changing and we need to learn how to balance both a Taker and Leaver societies as
