Cultures and food somewhat will water down in the future, but will not be entirely lost. It is important to recognize someone culture and background. Understanding where their family came from and how socialization played a major factor in the history of their family. In addition, it allows us to realize that our own families came from diverse roots and heritages. Does not matter what cultures we came from or if we are citizens or immigrants. By preserving culture, we are exposed to socialization by being able to always maintain our values and traditions. Foremost, my father being Mexican and mother being Italian. It is very important that we as a family maintain the importance of socialization as well. My parents in America are water …show more content…
When my parents go grocery shopping, my mother is most likely going to cook Italian food and my father is going to cook Mexican food. They both share similar norms of socialization. Even though the Italian and Mexican cultures are different, my mother and father both get the ingredients they need in order to make the dishes they want within their cultures. They are still going grocery shopping in American stores. The reality is, both of my parents intend to preserve their culture in many ways they can. Just like when my grandmother comes from Mexico. My grandmother being in America, she has her own way to preserve her culture whenever she cooks or goes grocery shopping. Showing that she is well prepared. Does not matter if she is in America. I personally have two warm cultures that I feel it is surviving until this day. Having an Italian or Mexican background, everyone that is exposed to this culture influences one another. Just as any other culture. Cultures in general, at the end of the day, “we all have a conditioning influence on our behavior of the groups and societies of which we are members”, according to Emile Durkheim. Food as well, there is always a reason why we eat the same traditional foods whether it is every weekend, once a month or once a year. We intend to go back to eat what our parents or grandparents made us, if it is not home. Whenever we have a chance to get something to eat traditionally we get it. Perhaps, you go to a restaurant within any culture. You can still eat what your grandmother made as a traditional dish once or try something new. For example, whenever my mother does not have time to make homemade cannolies, I still can get them at a pastry shop. Similarly, when I miss my favorite beef soup my father makes which is called “Caldo.” I can go to a Mexican restaurant and eat the same thing. I know that we all are conserving our traditions

I chose lasagna because I wanted to see if my boyfriend would be able to tell the difference from fresh, homemade meat sauce and the Stouffer’s Lasagna. Stouffer’s brand prides themselves on using “real” ingredients. The lasagna took about 1 hour and a half to cook. One of the main differences I noticed in making the spaghetti sauce from scratch and cooking the lasagna was prep time. With the spaghetti, I had to go shopping for all of the items I needed for the dinner.…

My mom, brother, and I can still eat there; however, we avoid it if dad is with us. Not only did our restaurant options have to be adjusted, but my dad’s meals on vacations were affected as well. In November 2015, when we went to Disneyland, my mom had to make many calls and make reservations in advance for the chefs to be able to accommodate my dad’s diet. Whenever we sat down to eat, as soon as my dad told the waiter or waitress that he had diet restrictions, they immediately sent for the chef, who came out to talk to him personally. Once my dad told the chef what he wanted to eat, the chef made sure that he prepared the food to the specifications.…

The culinary triangle that Levi-Strauss explains to us help us to better understand the society in which food was prepared. In my family I can see the blend of the old and the new. On those rare occasions that a traditional Italian meal has been prepared, I feel the old world influences even when it is done in a more modern fashion. But for the most part, my analysis shows that I eat in a traditional American way, which is quick and fast and without any regard or concern for the preparation. This is the direct reflection that I see American food and food preparation having on American…

Mexican families living in America will have turkey with sides of rice and beans, instead of mashed potatoes. The American tradition will be kept, but a little adjustment will be made to add a personal custom. Thanksgiving is an elaborated dinner, since the turkey takes hours and hours of cooking. Grocery stores are working hard at selling precooked Thanksgiving dinners. Dinner packages that include the entire dinner are put together, and all that is needed is to be warmed at home.…

I believe in family dinners. Sundays, holidays, “because I made a big batch of spaghetti sauce” days—any day is a good day to gather with good grub and family. Growing up, Mom usually cooked our dinners Monday through Saturday. Her creamy beef stroganoff served over hot, buttery egg noodles was the ultimate in comfort food and could make even the most dismal days of winter seem cheerier. Tacos to casseroles, meatloaf to Swiss steak, Mom’s meals weren’t gourmet feasts meant to appease the persnickety palate of a gourmand or grace the cover of Bon Appètit magazine.…

I can relate to that because I seen people and my self cutting down on corn tortillas and food. As you see tortillas are made from corn that is processed in factories. Me and family are Mexican which means that you have to have tortillas with everything even if it means with fried chicken. See, Mexican will eat about a good amount of tortillas with every meal, even for breakfast when we just have our eggs either boiled or scramble. I used too eat about five to seven tortillas with every meal of the day.…
