I belong to a beautiful community, the Latin-American culture, where the social relationships are more personal than in my current school in the United States. Among my groups of Latin friends, the cultural shock in social relationships is a popular topic. We usually talk about one characteristic of the Latin culture, which is that we talk without mincing words or as we literally say, “without hairs on the tongue.” I remember my first talk with my American roommate when I tried to start a very personal conversation, and she said, “you have to know about what to talk and about what do not talk.” Her words made me think that I had suffer a cultural shock because I was in a country where the relationships where different.
