Cultural Project: Italy
In America, we have certain customs and traditions that we are comfortable with and what we live by. An example would be the celebration of Thanksgiving. It is an American holiday that we all look forward to. In other countries like Europe, they don’t have the same holidays, traditions or values. They have a very different lifestyle than we do in America, particularly in Italy. Italians eat different foods, listen to different music, and have a different education system. Living in America, I can tell that our lives are contrasting from those who are living in Europe.

One of my favorite Italian dishes is pasta with Bolognese sauce. It is not a difficult meal to prepare and loved by everyone. To prepare the Bolognese sauce, you have to cook beef and mix it together with sautéed carrots and celery, salt and pepper and a little bit of basil. Add all the ingredients to a regular tomato sauce. Once the sauce is prepared, you cook pasta and put everything together with a little bit of olive oil. Italy is also known for the desserts. There bakeries of filled with mouthwatering pastries, such as zeppoles, tiramisu cakes and cannoli’s. Primary school is from the grades of first to fifth. Primary school is similar to what we have in America. It consists of basic curriculum of math, English, science, physical education, music/art, and social studies with the addition of Italian. In primary schools, they are consisted of bigger classrooms then what we are used to in America. In order to comply to the needs of these large classrooms, there are three teacher working in one class with the assistance of English language teacher. The English language teacher works with many children from all different classrooms to teach them
