Cultural Influences On Danticat's Life

Danticat was born in Haiti and immigrants to the United States when she was four which she stay with her aunt and uncle in port-au-prince. Her father also died at a young age. She began writing stories at the age of twelve. Haiti was able to shape Danticat life because it the stories she was able to hear when she was younger which she was able to write in her books. Even Though Danticat left Haiti at a young age she was still able to carry some of their transitional culture. They was still able to eat there culture foods and and follow the transitions. When danticat father died they had a saying that you had to wear a red underwear so your father wouldn't sleep with you at night.even though some nights she forget to wear it , it was something they believe in. …show more content…
My mom is from africa where she was spent most of her life's. So when we came to america she was still able to shape most of Africans culture into and the food we eats. rice is our main food we eat it with different soups.we all everyone that's older than us aunts and uncle to show respects and believe it takes a village to raise a child. Everyday my mom reminds me of where I came from, and the struggle she had with me. Growing up I use to hate being african because of what people use to say about africa and the smart comments they use to make.
