Cultural Identity In Symbols, Non-Material Culture And Language

In Chapter 3 symbols, non-material culture, and language are mentioned. All cultures use some kind of language to communicate ideas and general meanings. This language can be oral, written, in symbols, or skillfully planned out with an alphabet and alternate meanings of words. Language is essentially how you express ideas. Your cultural identity is that feeling of belonging when you are in a group of people that share the same religion, generation, or any social group that has its own culture.
The way language influences cultural identity is like the symbols, books, movies, and all linguistic elements a culture adopts that make the culture unique. In religion, let’s say Islam, they have a textual form of the bible called the Quran. It is written in Arabic language, the people of that religion can connect because they know Arabic, and they can read the Quran and discuss things and have an understanding of the meanings. In Christianity the bible was originally written in Greek, but it was translated into English and more than likely other languages so that every follower of the religion can be intertwined in their religious culture. When you think about our cultural generation and the language used, every word is shortened for convenience. We all understand each other due to the fact we have adapted to the fast moving pace of the world. The short style of language came about after texting was created, so making communication short was necessary. How often do you catch our generation saying the acronyms Lol, and JK? More often than you think. With this generation you have to think about how you are going to spell a word. Are you texting, or writing an essay? The generation we live in is definitely effected by
