The concept of cultural heritage includes both the tangible and intangible aspects of culture. The tangible aspects include monumental and physical remains of cultures and the intangible aspects are the traditional cultural practices of a people, passed down over generations. Our team has identified the tangible and intangible aspects of Egyptian culture to determine the ways in which we can make an impact in the country, while identifying with the cultural heritage of the Egyptians.

This causes power outages in parts of the country up to six times a day, for multiple hours at a time. This problem has created lots of frustration resulting in underproduction in businesses, and an overall disruption to everyday life. These outages are claimed to be due to poor government control and terrorist attacks on Egypt’s energy infrastructure. Egypt also faces supply difficulties. Natural gas reserves have been continuously over-priced, which has led to firms being reluctant to purchase more gas until the Egyptian government pays its debts. These blackouts have led to protests, crime and poverty. Our goal is to use our aspect of cultural heritage to begin to help solve this serious problem.

Our money will go towards funding the blackout problems as well as creating alternate forms of power through water wheels. The water wheels will help serve as a backup form of energy for when the blackouts occur.
Of the five megatrends discussed, we feel that urbanization plays a huge role on the impact of these blackouts faced in Egypt. Urbanization focuses on the shift from rural to urban areas. We feel that this move in demographics is what is contributing to both the energy crisis as well as the underutilization of their key fruits and nuts.
The issue with the move from rural to urban settings is that it’s happening too frequently and the rural area is left untouched and not used as a proper investment. We think that this investment is the fruit, and this is why we plan on turning the fruit into a positive resource to help serve their cultural heritage.
