The Cultural Effects on Grief Process of Human Cultural effluence on grieving process has an interesting similarities and differences between western and eastern societies. The feeling of sadness naturally associates with several human reactions and behaviors, like wearing a certain clothes color, choosing the right type of a casket, crying, and a certain cooking pattern. Certain rituals of expressing the sadness help to provide the necessary support from the community or family relatives and friends. Despite the fact of each culture has its own ceremony to deal with death of loved one, the feeling of sorrow is the same regardless the ethnic background.
Noticeably, both eastern and western cultures when somebody dies, most of the family members and their friends have to wear black colored clothes at funerals ceremony, but there are some eastern counties wearing different colors other than black at funeral. In the Middle Eastern funeral mostly associates with loud crying voices at the deceased’s house, and there is a lot of cooking with a vast amount of food for several days. In addition, the Chines culture requires the food has to be placed neatly and orderly on a table facing the deceased (“Food and Chinese Funeral Practices”). Meanwhile, in United State the offering food and drink usually after burial ceremony, where family and friends have a gathering to share the deceased memories , also to support his family.
