The Cultural Event I attended was, “Claflin University Hispanic Heritage Month 2016 Kick-Off Program.” This program was held outside of the Café in the Panther Plaza on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. I attened the program by mayself and was sponcered by the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee. I found that the set up for the program was very relaxing. The chairs were set up in a semi circle around an elevated stage. We were close enough to enjoy the music, but not too close to where it became sufficating. At the beginning of the program some claflin students were playing music, but not any type of music, they were playing old school music. The tenderous sounds of all the instruments becoming one beautiful sound made me nod my head to its rhythem. It is not everyday that we are able to hear old live old school jazz music. The students playing the music seemed intreged in the melody they were playing. When I first saw the Mariachi Los Cabos Band, my first impression …show more content…
In which one of them replied, “ I am proud of my culture and I love to share it with everybody. I dress like this and I talk like this because this is my strong proud heritage.” “Wow.” They are/were increadible. Threw this experience I learned more about the spanish culture and I even learned more about my own culture. They were having fun with what they know and they shared their culture with me. I noticed that many performers become fazed when multiple people are walking by, but the Mariachi Los Cabos Band was never fazed. They knew what they were doing and wheather or not thay had a small or large crowd, they were going to do there thing either way. Overall this program was very enjoyable and I was able to learn a lot through the music, clothes and speech. I would definantly attend another event similar to this

Attending this festival made me feel closer to home since I come from a town that the majority of the population are Mexican. While I was waiting for FAMA to perform it was heartbreaking that in the crowd a child got lost and it took a while for the parents to find him. I was surprised at the parents, because they saw how many people were there and some would still let their children be running around. Therefore, it was a pleasure to attend the Chicano Park Festival because it have insight on the significance of the…

Finally, I can say that experiencing this type of Jazz concert, where it is more of a casual, lounge atmosphere was very interesting due to the fact that the first Jazz concert I attended was in a more professional setting. It was a lot more obvious to me how Jazz does live in the moment, since the band actually did a whole improvised piece and was randomly deciding what they were going to play next. The connection between the band members was also very evident, they had a lot of eye contact and head signals. Last but not least, I am excited about the fact that this jazz session incorporated certain elements of Jazz that we have recently covered in class. For example, the train influence on music pieces.…

There is always drama and suspense leading up to National Signing Day which has become the most important day to college football teams all around the country but that wasn't the case this afternoon for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Today saw Coach Holgorsen and his staff sign every committed player that was expected to sign, sign with the Mountaineers. West Virginia failed to sign a quarterback in this class which concerns some fans but don't forget that WVU has Will Grier (JR), Chris Chugunov (SO), and Cody Saunders (FR). There is youth at the position but as we have seen before you can never have enough experience at the quarterback position. Two strengths that West Virginia walked away with in this class are defensive line and defensive backfield which should make defensive coordinator Tony Gibson a very happy man.…

For my community event I went to the Romero Theater Troupe’s presentation of Thoughts on Regime Change & Other Acts of Resistance at Regis University on February 25th. This event was heavily focused on immigration and included actual stories from immigrants and their families as well as other stories that discussed critical issues in our society today. From this event I feel like I learned a ton about how immigration can affect families and how hard it can be to come to this country. Many of the stories were something that I could never relate to due to my own circumstances so it was very interesting to be able to see how people feel and how they are treated as immigrants. I feel like I really learned a lot from the Lopez family’s performance…

Music is an important part any country’s culture. It exemplifies the mood and feelings of the people of that time and is a representation of their experiences. As time flows on that music changes along with it, bringing new ideas and new songs to the stage. The music of the past slowly fades away as people forget it and stop paying homage to it. Conjunto Philadelphia is a band that wants to preserve the music of Pre-Revolutionary Cuba and make sure it isn’t forgotten.…

On September 15, I went and took part in el Grito ceremony held at the Miller Outdoor Theater to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day. I did not know what was el Grito, so I went to that event with an open mind. The show came after a long speech in both Spanish and English about the Mexican community in Houston and the impact of Harvey on the community. I really enjoy the sense of community that I experienced during that event. People came as a family or with a group of friends.…

It’s not typical for a teenager like myself to be caught watching a symphony. Due to this well-known stereotype, I was skeptical when I attended the Symphony of the Americas concert in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. However, much to my surprise I was entranced by the alluring symphony and atmosphere. The performance, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, paid tribute to both Italian and Hispanic composers by featuring music by Gioachino Rossini, Arturo Marquez, Gaetano Donizetti, and the legendary Ernesto Lecuona.…

Austin Garner Mrs. Anna Short English I Honors 04 May 2018 Culture of the 1950’s “In American memory, the post war 1950’s have acquired an idyllic luster” (“53. The 1950’s: Happy Days”). We see the decade as a simpler time but this is not completely accurate. The was a time when African Americans fought for their rights, and women fought to have the roles in society that they wanted. While both these movement were occuring, slang terminology was being used to define the culture of the decade.…

My expectations before participating in this activity was for it to not be as authentic as it was. I did not realize that there was a place downtown that had such real and good food and wondered why I haven’t heard of this place before. Also, I was surprised with the poverty I saw around the area. I have always grown up in areas that have a decent amount of money and have never been to a spanish speaking country or area before. This experience really opened my eyes to the fact that there are places out there that still have authenticity and still try to resist becoming “Americanized” in society.…
