Cultural Engagement In Social Work

Cultural engagement to me is going out to your communities and loving on the people. When they need water give them a drink, if they need food give something to eat, and if they need clothes give them something to wear. It is all about what Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” (NKJV) It is not just presenting the Gospel in word only but living out the Gospel indeed. We need to be light bearers to our neighbors and show them the way of the one true God.
Rock the Block is one of the best outreaches we do at our church. I have been involved with it for several years. From Christmas, Easter, and the Back to School Bash it is always one of the many highlights to say I proudly stand up for Christ. We

I saw several kids go up for salvation and reach the Lord as their savior. I was able to go up there and pray for several of the kids to have a better home situation and that their father would come back in their lives. I am normally kind of reserved in these type of settings but I am also flexible when it comes down to the need.
It truly takes a team of people to be able to do big outreaches in a community but it starts with each individual to pray for each event no matter how big or small. This is where cultural engagement truly can be the church’s best thing they do in their community. I enjoy going out in the community and engaging the hopeless and helpless. I know it is not about me but it is all about the Kingdom of God and how I can be the tool to change lives in our community. In the end, I get to use my tools that God has blessed me with to use in our community. Like for instance being rational and objective to the call that God has placed in my life. I feel that God is calling me to be a pastor in the future and work with our community no matter where that might be. I love to show the community the love of Christ and what he can do for them. I feel it is a critical time in our country and world that we show them the love of Christ before it is too

Søren Kierkegaard, a 19th century a philosopher, once said, “God…does what is still more wonderful: he makes saints out of sinners.” While Richard J. Mouw, in his book When the Kings Come Marching In, would agree that God redeems sinners he would also argue that God desires to redeem the entire cosmos. God desires to redeem both human souls and the cosmos because both have been infected and distorted by sin. After a careful reading of Mouw’s book, it is possible to piece together a summary of the main points of the book while formulating a response to Mouw’s explanations and his life application. When the Kings Come Marching…

That’s fantastic the place you work for comes up with a “Support Plan” with the client during the intake phase. The process of educating them on how to handle potential crisis situations empowers them to handle the situation themselves when/if it arises. Having this type of procedure reinforces standard 6 “empowerment and Advocacy” of the NASW’s Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice ("NASW Standards for Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice "). Established procedures definitely increase the likelihood everyone will be safe, both physically and emotionally.…

Understanding intersectionality is something that is important in the practice of social work. One must be able to understand and deal with one’s clients and their specific positions in life and understand how all of their different identities and places in society interact with each other. However, before one can understand intersectionality in others, one must examine the different areas of one’s own life and how they interact to form a unique identity. I will examine my specific roles in life and how they interact with each other going forward, specifically regarding gender, ethnicity and nationality, race, sexual orientation, abilities and disabilities, class, and religion.…

I could not fathom why God would want me to serve his church and his people when there were obviously more qualified people he could choose. This was definitely a stumbling block for me early in my ministry. I doubted my abilities and calling and therefore, didn’t totally surrender my life or calling to God. Thankfully, we have a God that, in spite of my weaknesses, used me to further his kingdom and reach people that don’t yet know Him. Those experiences and interactions helped to confirm my calling in full-time…

Divine Trust Trusting in a divinity isn’t as easy or straightforward as it sounds. I can most definitely attest to this. As a person raised in the Christian church I have not only have I lived this statement, but over the years I’ve seen it in the lives of various friends in my youth group. I continue to see this struggle to trust throughout the plot of “The Odyssey” by Homer. The protagonist Odysseus, his son Telemachus, and Odysseus’ ship’s crew all are prime examples.…

It is nearly impossible for pastors to be familiar with every culture that exists out there, in the world. People will come from different countries, states or even counties that may have a radically different culture than the pastor. Andy Crouch, in his book Culture Making, argues that: Culture is more than an ideology, trends, fads, fashion, sense of ethnic identity, the collections of practices, beliefs and stories that carve out a sense of distinctiveness and pride or failure and shame. It’s more than governing ideas, values and presuppositions of our society—as it is used in phrases like “culture wars,” ”the culture disbelief” or “the decline of our culture.”…

I used to be a member of the National Honor Society in J.W. Sexton High School. We met twice a month to discuss about volunteering opportunities such as volunteering in the 40/8 veterans organization, which I helped out from time to time. In the 40/8 veterans organization, the people who work there make food for veterans to eat. I help out by washing the dishes. I also help out my church by assisting and participating in holiday plays, arranging food to be served every other Sunday, and maintaining a clean environment for the church.…

We can't never miss the opportunity to do so. We have to continue to keep the mindset that we are walking epistles and many times we may be the only opportunity to present the gospel to a individual. Furthermore, when it come to mission work, sometimes we think that we have to be the ones going to other nations to do so. Going to another nation to present the gospel to people would be totally awesome.…
