A common scenario of identity politics is when people from the same class, political divide, religious group or sexual orientation vote for one of their own. Identity politics result mainly because the individuals feel that they shall be protected by their own once they get to power.
Identity politics is quickly losing ground in the United States politics today. Most individuals in the United States no longer feel that they owe any group anything if they do not stand by their side in politics. Loss of identity politics is attributed to two factors. Firstly, the sublimation of cultural diversity to give forth a single ethnic group has gone a long way in making people feel they belong together. The ongoing presidential campaigns and the grand visit by the current serving Pope of the Catholic church have had their views on immigration. The famous spirit of free immigration to the United States has been on the limelight over the last one week. Dr. Ben Carson and Donald Trump both agree that illegal immigrants should not be allowed in to the country. Donald Trump allegedly calls illegal immigrants Mexican Rapists and proposes that they should not be allowed in to the country. On the other hand, on his visit to the United States Pope Francis asked the government to treat all immigrants humanely regardless of whether they are legal or illegal. While addressing the senate and the parliament, Pope stressed on the need to protect the interests of young men who move to United States to chase their dream.
