Kennesaw State university prides itself as a university which facilitates cultural growth and diversity as well as any other top notch university in the nation. People from all walks of life can be found anywhere on campus, whether it be simply eating in the dining hall or engaging in the numerous activities Kennesaw State University sponsors that enhance students’ cultural scope. These activities held on campus are the life blood of the cultural aspect of this university and a student would be hard pressed to find a day where there was not a single event being held that contributes to the university’s culture. I attended three diverse events that all contributed to create an atmosphere of free expression, higher level thinking, self-directed …show more content…
David Wood and Dr. Michael Sheremer on the topic of whether God exists. This debate was incredibly interesting because both debate participants formerly recognized themselves as the opposite of what they now believe. For instance, Dr. David wood was a former atheist but now is a dedicated Christian and Dr. Sheremer was a former Christian and is now a dedicated atheist. This fact alone emphasizes the aspect of free expression that is incorporated at Kennesaw State. Both participants of the debate felt that the environment at KSU was accepting enough for them to express their ideas with full vigor and without the fear of discrimination or judgement from the audience. On the other hand, the audience was full of diverse students ready to broaden their perspectives and willing and accepting to hear out both participants in the debate regardless of their personal beliefs and endeavors. This debate also highlighted the culture of higher level thinking that surrounds Kennesaw. In order to even remotely comprehend the intricate concepts brought up by both Dr. Wood and Dr. Sheremer it is necessary to be able to think on an elevated plane of thought. Students and faculty at Kennesaw State University already operate on this higher plane of thinking therefore the concepts could easily be comprehended and undoubtedly sparked some intense conversations amongst students and faculty alike. The debate on whether God exists is a prime …show more content…
This trip left an impression on me that won’t easily be forgotten. It shown a spotlight on the lives of those directly impacted by the holocaust on both sides of the story and focused in on people around the same age as us students which really hit close to home. This trip to the holocaust museum stresses the importance Kennesaw state levies on self-directed learning as the majority of the material presented required the student to process the information without instruction. After we were shown a short film documenting the horrors of the holocaust, we were led into a room where information was plastered on pillars and the responsibility of learning the information was placed upon us. The holocaust museum is open to students to come whenever free of charge for their leisure and pursuit of knowledge. Facilities like this prove that Kennesaw State University has a dedicated cultural element of encouraging its students to become self-directed learners and pursue knowledge and perspective on their own. The last event I attended was the Kennesaw State girls’ soccer game against Georgia State. This game was an incredibly unique experience for me because I was used to the atmosphere surrounding high school soccer games where less than fifty fan would show up, I was shocked when I saw hundreds of fellow students filling the stadium for a soccer game on a Monday

This is a great example for proving that there is a flaw in the way schools develop he definition of a belief vs. fact; McBrayer says that schools are not using the right terms when defining these two, thus creating chaos when a child/teenager has to decide whether something is true or false, or right or wrong. He points out that the problem is that schools basically play something like the "Devil's advocate" when having a child choose whether something is a fact or a belief, when really every case is different and some facts can or cannot be proven. McBrayer also validates his argument by providing proof that he found the problem in his son's school "When I went to visit my son’s second grade open house, I found a troubling pair of signs hanging…

The Lemon test has been extremely influential, as it aids in clarifying a complicated entanglement of religion and legislation. In addition to the clarity, the popularity could be attributed to the ease of applicability. Not only is the lemon test pertinent to state funding, but also pubic school curriculum. On example is Kitzmiller vs. Dover (2005). This case questioned the ability of schools to teach intelligent design (ID) as a scientific alternative to evolution.…

My visit to the Nelson-Atkins museum was unlike any of my other visits to museums. First of all, I had a solid purpose for going and found myself paying much more attention to the intricacies of pieces I was viewing. Secondly, due to its sheer size, this museum had a wide variety of art from many different cultures and time periods, giving each hallway and room a different feel. Lastly, I felt much more educated about what I was viewing, when compared to previous experiences. I waited until the 8th of July to drive to Kansas City and thus had read most of content that would be covered over the semester.…

Cultural and Ethical Aspects: DNP Project Self-reflection Beginning in high school, I became aware of the differences that people made regarding group associations. There were those who were intellectual – competing for valedictorian and salutatorian, musicians – concert and marching bands, technically skilled – agricultural and machine oriented, and then there was me. Most students would only associate with their specific groups; however, I would associate and have friends in a variety of different groups.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

Although I have lived in rural Northeastern North Carolina for my entire life, I have had the opportunity to visit such places as Alaska, the Bahamas, Hawaii, and several other states up and down the east coast. Experiencing the different cultures, socializing with people with different ideas and customs, and listening to different points of view, were the most exciting aspects of those visits. Expanding my understanding of different perspectives and the exploring of different ideas with the diverse community at NC State is a goal I hope to…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

Diversity is a driving force of the world today, and immigration leads to this diversity. People from different parts of world move to various countries for a better life or simply better lifestyle. Individuals and families leave comfort of their own home and move to a foreign country for a better living, fear and challenges that come along with this are beyond imagination. East indians are the second most asian originated population in US, isolation from their own cultural group to settle into a new one is well explained in Anderson’s “Breaking Bread” where Soni Gupta and Najia Pathan recall their childhood memories and relate to cooking then versus now. How can our government be benign if we depend from it as much as it depends from us, the citizens? I don’t think it would be a good idea to aggravate the general population that in a way has much more power than the government it self. I feel like if there would be a day were the government would take advantage of its people, then that would be the day when the people of this country would stand against its government. In any matters where the people feel aggravated by its government am pretty sure the people will have a solution, and if that solution is to overwrite the way our government works then we shall do it. But talking about how or government treats us is very pleasant compared to other countries that only utilize they’re citizens to exploited them in hard labor…
