Cultural Diversity In Healthcare Organizations

The healthcare environment has many variables in the culture of an organization. The commitment of quality of care for patients and continuation of improving the workplace on regular basis. Organization cultures are reflected by the values, assumptions, and beliefs of an organization (Fallon, Begun, & Riley, 2013, pg.157). The culture is difficult to change because of the history and values, however, it has the potential to transform in an organization (Fallon, Begun, & Riley, 2013, pg.158). The three topics I will be discussing are cultural diversity, collaboration, and safety.
In many ways, cultural diversity can be a form around a variety of human characteristics such as ethnicity, religion, race, and socioeconomic status (Fallon, Begun, & Riley, 2013, pg.163). Cultural diversity is important to the organizations because of the differences among individuals that are distinguished by different countries. In addition, respecting the cultural diversity provides the best quality service for patients and collaboration with employees with different backgrounds. Teamwork and collaboration correlate together in sharing information, duties, and knowledge. Teamwork in healthcare employs the practice of collaboration and communication to expand roles of health workers and make decisions as a unit (“Librarian”, n.d.). For example, the importance of the use of team meetings and other communication methods such as sharing information through an electronic program, discussing a patient's lab results and suggestions of what type of procedure should the patient benefit from.
