For my cultural diversity class we were asked to choose and write about a movie I have watched and express what its diversity issue was in the movie or what value issues were noticed. I chose the movie, “Twelve Years a Slave.” This was the first movie to be directed, produced, and written by African Americans to win an academy award. This is a movie that has won 235 awards worldwide, and was also a winner of the Oscar award for the best motion picture prize. This movie is based on an African American man named Solomon Northup who was born, married, worked, and lived in upstate New York as a free man.
