Culture is the shared experience of beliefs, values, norms and practices of a group of people that have been created and learned through enculturation (Guest, 2014). Cultures can be distinct by different demographics like religion, race, media, age, as well as ambiguous in those aspects. As well, cultures include distinct cuisine, dance, music, behaviors, and more. For a lot of people around the world, culture is a means of identity because it creates a sense of community and lifestyle.

Multiculturalism is the abstraction that multiple, distinct cultures can exist together and be recognized in a society. This concept builds ethnic diversity, enhancing communities. According the Guest (2014), “today’s flow of globalization are intensifying the exchange and diffusion of people, ideas, and goods, creating more interaction and engagement among cultures.” Remittances hold great evolution in societies and cultures. Specifically, social remittances create incredibly diverse societies and Fedorak (2014) describes the advantage and wisdom that comes with having a greater perspective when people are exposed to many cultures than if someone were to only have knowledge of one culture. To gain and obtain a worldlier view on life offers innovative approaches, which can only create an openness to new, unfamiliar ideas. People with this mindset are less likely to strike down foreign thoughts. “In El Salvador, the school dropout rate among children is lower”, “in Mexico and Sri Lanka, the birth weight of children is higher”, in Nepal, the share of poor people decreased by 11% in a time of economic crisis” (Ratha, 2014) all in the families that receive economic remittances.
