Cultural Differences In Sycamore High School

All students come from different facets of ethnic beliefs and cultural differences. Those cultural differences should be taken into account when developing lessons, within instructional practices, when using discipline, and when building relationships with the students. It is important to foster and harness enough influences and resources for all races within the student and teacher population to have an impact on the cultural aspects each race. When identifying the three most prevalent races from the 2015-2016 Tennessee State Report card, Sycamore High School has 89.3% white, 7.4% African-American, and 3.3% Hispanic that make up the student population.

Some of these students, some of these students pose stronger personalities to hind behind how others will perceive them and their sense of belonging within their environment (Craig, 2016). Consistently finding others ways, such as humor, violence, performance, attention etc., to compensate for their inhibition. Although these cultural aspects do are not a major conflict with my own race, as an educator, one needs to be sure to can set their own biases and beliefs aside, get to know each individual student and their cultural differences, build trust and compassion for each student and develop a curriculum around the cultural heritage of races that make up each student cultural population. Not researching and understanding the cultural differences can be a detriment to these students and have a negative impact on their academic and behavioral development.
