Rivalry between families and their children becoming lovers is a common scenario that many people can relate to directly or indirectly. The story of Romeo and Juliet is particularly unique because their meeting was purely accidental. None of them knew the other prior to their meeting. When they finally met, Romeo and Juliet realized that their families’ poor relations could be a hindrance to their love. Consequently, as a cultural mirror, the Romeo and Juliet story addresses the issue of forced marriages that is present in almost every society today. Another significant cultural meaning that the story brings in is the plight of forbidden love. In the society, there are numerous instances where two lovers cannot be together because of the circumstances beyond their own control. These barriers are brought about by religion, family feuds, class and social differences, and race. Furthermore, the literature work needs to have immense cultural meaning to the people who read it. Shakespeare’s works are an example of art that has brought change to the community even after years of its publication. Indeed, Romeo and Juliet emphasizes the importance of peace-loving relations between families for the benefit of their generations to
