From the five potential alternatives I have suggested, I believe some will have a more substantial positive impact on the business than others.
My alternatives to improve the access to the blocks are not easily nor straight forward, they require considerable coordination with the neighbour or a considerable outlay of cash to purchases the neighbouring block. Therefore, this is not a straight forward management decision and combination of considerable factors need to be considered before these potential alternatives are undertaken. This means the selection of these alternative is highly depended on where Campbell and Carol what to take the business into the future. I don’t think that I am in a position to recommend whether they should go ahead with the alternative or not due to …show more content…
Currently on the farm they are not producing up to the point allowed by the quantity of shares they own, thus they have excess shares. Therefore, by winter milking this will increase production to the point they are allowed to thus increase revenues.
9.2.1 Evaluation of opportunity
When discussing this opportunity with Campbell he stated that there is a real opportunity to carry out this process. This will involve milking though all empty, older and CAE goats. This will result in less culls and reduced kidding deaths and problems as the problematic goats will not be mated. Production will increase as the milking period will be extended, however there will be an associated reduction in peak milk production for the next season, but it is believed that the longer milking period will easily counteract this. I also believe that this is a better option than increasing goat numbers to achieve the increase in milk production as the facilities especial the milking shed are not equipped to handle larger numbers.
