He is the same boastful and confident Beowulf we have all known. Beowulf is portrayed as a classic character that is boastful, confident and has no flaws. The main character does not undergo any emotional or psychological changes through the book. However, in the movie, the mighty Beowulf does go through these psychological changes. Due to the difference in time periods, many characters, such as Beowulf in the movie, are depicted differently than in the book. The book follows many of the same thoughts and principles of that time period. Heaney does a great job of keeping the translation in the old context and dialects that we aren't familiar too. By doing so, we are able to learn more about the past and what the people of the time period when it was written believe. The movie, however, displays more modern day characteristics that help us to get to know the characters better by implementing real life emotions and motifs that correspond to the characters thoughts and feelings. Although many characters are depicted differently in the movie than in the book, Beowulf takes a drastic change. He goes from a consistent character in the book to a character that gradually changes throughout the book. His character changes to fit a more modern day character that is easier to relate to because of what we are used to of those time
