Cultural Differences Between Romeo And Juliet

In regards of Juliette, Juliette has two sisters. When Juliette was 8 years old her parents divorced because her father was abusive towards her mother. Juliette’s mother, sisters and she do not want any contact with the family of Juliette’s biological father. The client has one maternal aunt, two maternal uncles, one paternal aunt, and one paternal uncle. Her maternal grandmother is the only surviving grandparent that Juliette has. Juliette’s grandmother has diabetes.
Cultural Assessment
Romeo is a white-Caucasian 27 years old heterosexual male. The client’s family is a non-native Jewish middle class family from Poland. Also, Romeo does not have physical or genetical disabilities. Romeo does not have a history of medication or hospitalization.

Before getting married, they used to drink alcohol and socialize with other people. When Romeo and Juliette got married, Romeo began to consume alcohol more frequently. As a child, Romeo saw his father been taken care of by his mother when he got drunk. Thus, Romeo expects Juliette to do the same. Romeo prefers to be isolated from Juliette. He shared that he prefers that Juliette joins him drinking, but Juliette refuses to do so. Romeo desires that Juliette becomes more permissive with sex. Based on cultural messages, Romeo believes that Juliette should have sex with him anytime he wants because she is his wife. Also, Romeo argues that because he is the one working, his needs should be met first. In regards of Juliette, she grew up in a household where there was domestic violence. Now, Juliette feels that she is been discriminated again because of her gender. Juliette is not willing to take care of Romeo when he gets drunk. Juliette expressed that she came to therapy with Romeo because she cannot handle Romeo getting drunk constantly until he passes out. Also, Juliette has refused to be sexually intimate with Romeo because she does not get aroused by him any longer. The couple has low levels of differentiation, and rigid boundaries.
