Also, I noticed that several students who had IEP’s were sitting together. They didn’t have any other students sitting with them. In the classroom we try to teach them to accept each other and work as a community. However, I realized, while I was standing in the lunchroom, that in the classroom we are blind to see they are all classified based on differences outside of the room. After this class I think if I was to see that seating arrangement again I would speak with the adjustment councilors. However, this can be a problem for students who don’t read English well. I recognize the limitation so I make accommodations. When we have any type of test in math that includes word problems I whisper the problems verbally to them in order to make sure they understand what is being asked. I know they may not be offered this accommodation in other classes but my goal is for them to demonstrate what they understand. If language is the barrier then I need to be resourceful on how I address this
