In the poem, “Beowulf”, there are several things about the culture arts of the time Beowulf was “alive” that stand out in the cultural contextual presentation. One of these for instance is how weapons were crafted in that time period. For example, how the pommel of a sword was crafted to help balance the blade of a sword. Another one of these things that surprised me was how important certain weapons were in 700 AD. I didn’t expect for certain weapons to be superior to others just because they are family heirlooms. I didn't know that way back when, vikings used to use axes more than swords because they were lightweight, and cheaper than swords, therefore, they were more affordable to the poor.
