Minister for Indigenous Health Warren Snowdon revealed in a statement that the latest results from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) illustrated that the gap was less severe than what the UN report had made it appear. The commentator at the end of the advertisement states that discrimination in all its forms leads to depression and anxiety in Indigenous Australians, bringing awareness to the consequences of discrimination. It encourages Australians to respect others different from them, check their behaviour and to think about the effect of what they say and do can have on others.

The Beyond Blue television advertisement shows just how small an action or word has an effect on those who are being discriminated against. Those who belong to minority groups especially those who are visually recognised to belong to certain races experience more discrimination due to fixed ideas and notions about that particular race (Fanany & Fanany, 2012). There have been many studies undertaken that have shown poorer mental health in minority groups and culturally competent approaches that allow health care providers to be culturally considerate and aware (Durey, 2010).
