Cultural Competence In Early Learning

It is very important, not just for all the educators and staff members working at the early learning setting to be culturally competent, it is also important that the children become culturally competent and don’t discriminate or say anything inappropriate towards people of another culture. Ways educators can be a role model to demonstrate accepting of all people of all cultures and to try and stop discriminating behaviour include; have regular discussions with all students talking about other cultures and countries, educators can celebrate various cultural festivals/ celebrations through activities and arts and crafts, for example for Easter the children can have an Easter egg hunt, for Chinese new year you could get the children to colour in dragons and make Chinese lanterns, for St Patricks day educators could do an activity involving four leaf clovers and the colour green. Even if there aren’t any celebrations at that time in the year you could still do cultural activities such as getting the children to colour in their own boomerangs, or get someone in to play African rums for the children, and educators can always read the children books about other cultures. …show more content…
Using these strategies this will help children become more aware of other cultures and the children will have fun doing these activities at the same time, therefore they will learn to be more open and accepting of various cultures and learn that all cultures are
