Cultural Competence Analysis

To me the term Cultural Competence means being respectful and mindful of cultures represented in the service and wider community. It's also being aware of cultural differences and having knowledge of the values and customs of those who differ from my own. However it’s more than that, it's the ability as an educator to “Understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across different cultures. Cultural competence encompasses:
-Being aware of one’s own world view
-Developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences
-Gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views
-Developing skills for communication and interaction across cultures. “(EYLF,p16)
