cultural communication lectures I realize that not every one is the same in the way they communicate. We are living in a global world where borders are shrinking and cultures are meshing but there are sill cultural customs that need to be accounted for. Especially as a Campus Involvement Ambassador, it is our job to ensure all student, even international students have a great experience at Fresno State. I was ignorant to the fact there are so many distinct cultures represented around campus. I think we need to be very cognoscente of this fact take account of all the wonderful diversity around us. I really enjoy when I can take what I learn in class and apply it to my life. The inter cultural lectures were extremely valuable because I could …show more content…
Learning all the different aspects was what had the biggest impact on me. Learning about direct and indirect as well as all the medium through which messages can be sent was very interesting. I also really enjoyed the presentation. It was one of the things that I was most nervous about but getting back the feedback from the class was very reassuring. They all said really nice things and that made me feel good even though I thought I did not do a good job. It felt good to know that my audience thought it was good presentation. Through that I gained confidence and the knowledge that public speaking really is not that scary after all. Its how funny how something I was worried about for the entire semester turned out o be one of the best experiences. The biggest improvement I have seen was my improvement in speaking. As I said speaking was probably the biggest challenge for me throughout my life because I am a very quiet person. Going through this class and having different experiences I learned that it is okay if I have something to say. People value my opinion and are expecting me to say something. Different experiences and challenges forced me to grow and to speak up about what I think. I think the biggest thing that kept me from speaking was that I did not think I had anything of value to say in conversation. I see know that there are things that need …show more content…
It seemed that everyday we went over something in class I would see that either on the news, at school, or at work. Communication is so important and the skills I learned in this class I had the opportunity to apply them on a daily basis. I credit this class with allowing me to go to a conference North Carolina. If I had not critically evaluated my resume I may not have been accepted to attend the conference. The conference was by far the best experience this semester because of the wonderful people I met and the memories I made there and it may not have been possible without your help. The skills I learned in class, I applied and I had a wonderful time. I also learned the importance of being focused on the look of my documents. In every project I did for all my other classes I tried to make sure that the margins were correct and that it looked presentable. I learned that a lot of points can be given for having something that looks good. Also a lot of points can be taken away fro something that does not look good or utilize white space(my final

The word ‘culture’ can be interpreted in many different ways and has been altered to fit the beliefs of society depending on the time period. In the 19th century, the term was most commonly used as a synonym for Western civilization, but nowadays is not specifically associated with countries. The modern definition of culture is “a community or population sufficiently large enough to be self-sustaining, that is, large enough to produce new generations of members without relying on outside people” (Jandt, 2010). This essay will illuminate and illustrate the intercultural communication concepts of Power Distance, Long-term Orientation, White Privilege, and New Racism by drawing upon the cultural experiences of my friend and flat mate, Claude Olivier.…

An example of how Intercultural Communication may be used in a business environment is when an American…
