The European Colonizers believed that it was their god given right to expand their territory and bring forth a new way of living, new crops, and new riches westward regardless of how it was done. They believed it their “manifest destiny” to take over the land that once belonged to the Native Americans and is portrayed in the painting titled American Progress by John Gast. The Native Americans, after viewing the Europeans actions, felt they were untrustworthy and destructive.
