Cultural Bias Research Paper

Bias is a tendency to lean in a certain direction, often to the detriment of an open mind. Those who are biased tend to believe what they want to believe, refusing to take into consideration the opinions of others. This thought process can greatly influence people’s social interactions, and the way that they live their lives. Perceptions develop how people perceive themselves and others on a daily basis. It is important to investigate how people’s actions and behaviors, effect, not only themselves, but also those around them.
We all have biases, whether it is conscious or unconscious. As a result of bias judgements, certain people can benefit and other people are penalized. Bias is often shown toward minority groups based on factors such as, class, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, immigration status, and other diverse traits. Bias, prejudice, and discrimination all live under the same roof. They’re all an inclination toward one way of thinking, often based on how you were raised, what you were taught/saw, your experiences, and personal background. These judgements can cause make it hard for individuals to make friends, and build relationships.
For the past five years, my family has hosted foreign exchange students from China. Despite taking world history, I still had some preconceived notions about China.
