Cultural Awareness – PFS Paper # 3
Values are very important when describing a person’s life. It shapes how they act and how they live on a day-to-day basis. My whole life I have grown up in a three-person household. Between my father, my sister and myself we have had some rough times and some great times. I wouldn’t say my father is strict but I grew up having to do a couple things that clearly represent my family’s values. Our top three values are all of equal importance and they are Respect, honesty and hard work. These three values and characteristics have shaped my family for many years. Respect is something my dad taught me when I was a little kid. Everybody should be respectful and in return be respected. I was born into a melting pot culture because I was born in the United States. My family and friends are all around the same type of person, but because the United States is so diverse you never know what to expect. I was taught respect because of this fact. You don’t necessarily know who you can be talking to, and that is why respecting religion, gender, and race is so important to me. In middle school I didn’t pay attention to respect as much as I should have and I got into some tough situations. When doing business with the Chinese it is important to know to take time and to not rush, and trust overall is interpersonal and it takes time to build. By knowing these multiple points of view I can benefit accordingly. I myself can adjust between the two cultures and in the future someday do business with China. I will know what and what not to do and what is appropriate in order conduct strong business with China. Overall, I can grow relationships with the Chinese and people from all over the world to increase my personal
