Some differences you can tell by just looking at the person, but other times we must dig deeper into the person’s background and culture of a person to notice the difference. In this paper I am going to give you the background, and culture about me and how it will have an impact on my classroom, by present a cultural narrative of myself.
I’m a twenty-two year old white female from Lula, Georgia. My great grandparents of my mother’s father were Indians, and my great grandparents on my mother’s mother side was from Wales. I am not sure what types of Indian they were, but I have been told

I grew up in a Christian home and attended a Baptist church. My family and I have always been very active in our church. My father is a deacon and my mother plays the piano. My sister and I both teach youth classes. Religion has and always will have a huge part of my life. I also married into a Baptist family. As I was growing up my social status impacted who I have become today. While growing up I saw at a young age where we fell in the social classes. My family was a middle class, working family. We worked hard on our farm which was passed down from generation to generation. So I guess you can say that farming, raising chicken and cows are our family …show more content…
My cultural values will influence my approach on teacher. I will use for family competiveness when we do I fun activity, because I am sure it will be a competitive in some way. I will always find math, reading or others games to make learning fun. The reason I know this is how I will approach teaching, because this is what I do in my afterschool program and children seem to learn from playing games. I hope that since I come from culture that have family traditions, I would somehow use or do fun activities that the students will love each year. Also since I come from a family that is so close and rely on each other, I could instill that in to my classroom. Having everyone working as a unit and not just my classroom, but the teachers that I might work with. I believe that my culture could help better reach my students, because my culture would be similar to the students that I teach. I hope that the students can see or I can tell them that I come from a background of Cherokee Indians and this could be an ice breaker to get them to research their culture and heritage. I hope to utilize my culture to better reach my students by being able to form close bonds with my students, like my family and also being able to make games be competitive and make learning

For example, after teaching the students about the Irish culture and the Irish Potato Famine, my cooperating teacher assigned the students a project in which they created a presentation about their own culture. In this presentation, the students described the food, the music, the religious practice, and holidays that they celebrate. This was a very successful assignment for all the students were able to present something about their culture.
