I went to my middle years of elementary school on Long Beach Island where the socio-economic class is relatively wealthy and almost completely Caucasian.. However, from previous places I lived I knew that the well-equip elementary school with multiple computer labs, top of the line P.E equipment, and brand new textbooks was not necessarily the norm. From Long Beach Island I moved to Newport, Rhode Island. Newport was an interesting place in that on one side of town there were mansions and high-end shopping and on the other side was the definition of urban. This was a comfortable place for me. The school’s population was split evenly among races, so nothing surprised me. I felt more welcomed and I felt like I could flourish as a student because of the immense opportunities that high school provides for you. In high school I met the very first teacher who didn’t roll there eyes at me when I said I was a military kid and might move before the end of the year.
