Cultural Artifact Speech Outline
I. Introduction
a. According to Krista Lofgren, article writer at Big Fish Blog, over 59 percent of Americans play video games. This means that over 150 million people in the United States alone plays video games.

b. This is my computer and it represents the gaming culture. This computer was my first attempt at putting together a computer from scratch after researching and buying all of the different components 2 years ago. I wanted the experience of building a computer from scratch and to gain better performance to play games.

c. Thesis: By learning more about this computers and how it relates to the gaming society, you will have a greater understanding

Computers didn’t play much of a role at first in the gaming culture. At first the gaming industry was dominated by gaming consoles such as the Xbox, PlayStations, and the many Nintendo consoles. The popularity however, did not last long as companies began developing games for the Personal Computer (PC). The creation of games for the computers allowed for innovations that console gaming couldn’t provide. The main innovation being how computers allowed for the connection to the Internet which allowed people to play online games together. As a result, computers became increasingly involved with the gaming industry. Now computers are a necessity to the gaming …show more content…
I started out as a console gamer at age 10; my first console being the Nintendo DS. For the next 4 years of my life I remained a console gamer until high school. During my high school days, my closest friends always talked about a game called “League of Legends.” At first I wasn’t interested in the game at all. However, I wanted to fit in with my friends so I downloaded the game and began playing. I started to talk about how I started the game to my friends and we began playing with each other. I started off being so bad at the game that all my friends called me a noob (a gaming term that means someone is bad at the game). I thought to myself “should I quit or not?” “How should I get better” and “That I really should go find some nicer friends.” I didn’t want to be laughed at anymore so I watched professionals playing the game to gain vast knowledge of the game. I also practiced and applied the knowledge I received in game whenever I had free time. Eventually I got my ranking (Platinum) which is higher than that of my friends’ ranking (Gold) and they were impressed that I became better than
