Gender Stereotypes Do Not Stay Home

Have you ever experienced someone tell you only girls cry or how about that’s not lady like behavior? If you have you are not alone. From the moment you are born your parents begin to decide what color to paint your room or what clothes you should wear based on your sex. So if you are a girl they go buy pink color clothes and if you are a boy they buy blue color clothes and from that moment on you are entitled to a certain role, but you might ask who gets to decide what you can and can’t do based on your gender? Women have come a long way and have gained so much freedom and equality, but that still doesn’t mean gender stereotypes do not exist. Although women are now able to work and not stay home; there are still battles women are fighting due to those gender roles. Cultural views are greatly influenced by social views and specifically how social media presents those views to everyone. Unfortunately, due to our cultural views and society many young boys and girls are being taught these gender roles at a young age with the toys they play, as well as the movies and commercials they are exposed to through social media. In order to break this cycle we need to teach our youth that it is okay to break out of those norms that society has created.
