Cultural Analysis Essay Examples

I decided to repurpose my essay from the first unit. After looking back through my essays, the cultural analysis essay was my weakest and the one I struggled with most. It also happened to be our first major essay. Instead of going the conservative route and choosing my best essay to repurpose, I wanted to repurpose the cultural analysis essay for a few reasons. First, I thought it would be most convenient for the multi-modal aspect of this assignment because my original essay involved pictures that I analyzed. Right away, I had a visual mode to work with. My other reason of choosing to repurpose my weakest essay was because after looking it over, I realized that the essay truly shows how drastic of an improvement I have made as a writer because of this class- and because of …show more content…
I never had confidence in my writing, so a first major writing assignment in my first college english class was intimidating to me. After conquering the task of finding images I wanted to analyze, I was faced with the actual analysis of the images. I could not stop second guessing myself: Is my analysis too far-fetched? Does my analysis make sense? Am I missing something obvious and important? I was overwhelmed with these thoughts and dreaded the writing part of the essay assignment. My ideas could not be unorganized and my frustration made it worse. Sweetland did not help, non-sufficient outlines drafts were everywhere, I just could not figure it out. Finally, after four days of writing and deleting, I got somewhere. I made sense of my analysis and, although now I see that my essay was sloppy and scattered, I finished my first major essay for my first english class in college. Coming back to this essay I was really excited to work with visual mode again. I just finished a photo essay in a different class that I was really excited about. I also was excited to confidently analyze new pictures to show myself how much I have grown from this

Even though it does not feel as though I have improved much, I know that the grades on my essays say differently. After looking over my essays, I noticed that I have become better with using evidence to support my papers. This, to me, is my best accomplishment. I have also improved on my word choice, organization, and how I use my quotes. If you were to compare the first paper I wrote to the last paper I wrote, I feel as though it would be obvious on how much my organization has improved.…

Regardless, I do wish that I would have started outside of class earlier, so that I could have spent more time for editing and checking for details. Time management was something I noticed most for the second essay, the visual text analysis. Finding a interesting text was hard, and finding reliable secondary sources was even harder, even with the Columbus State Online Database. Although some researching took place outside of school, most of the actual essay writing took place in school during the work days. Even with the unexpected amount of research that I had, managing time was not a great concern for me.…

Multimodal Essay For the multimodal essay I chose to use my first essay on “Modern Day Manifest Destiny”. Essay one was very essential for me to become the writer I am now. I think choosing this essay will demonstrate careful preparation and effort because this was an essay that I cared a lot about. My argument was centered on the idea that Manifest Destiny still exists and is being practiced in modern day society.…

For most of my papers I had a pretty good understanding of what my purpose needed to be for each of them. I would have to say that I struggled more with the reading response essay more than the others because I realized that I wasn’t quite understanding what the assignment was for that paper. I liked that the essays were more personal so it made it easier to know who my audience was and what I wanted my purpose to be. I was happy with my first essay because I really tried to make the stories and memories come to life. Assignment 1 was easy also because it was something that many people experienced and went through.…

Looking back on the semester and the essays I drafted, the one that stood out the most was the synthesis analysis essay. It was in this essay that I studied and analyzed John Keats, “When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be” and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s, “Mezzo Cammin”. My main purpose was to assess and reflect on common themes between the two poems, as well as finding background information that aided the authors. By taking this approach, I was able to discover direct links into the explanation I wanted my piece to present the given audience. Using the added aide of this strategy, I felt as though I achieved success in understanding the Exploration and Argumentation learning outcome.…

“In this ideology, walking functions as an emblem of the simple man and as, when the walk is solitary and rural, a means of being in nature and outside of society”(Solnit, Pg. 18) Walking is always overlooked, and is only looked at as one way of many to get from point A to point B. I feel Solnit had a great point when she illustrates how important walking is in the world. Walking is a great way to connect to your environment. When you walk you are always connected with your environment. You are looking at different things, walking on different surfaces, touching different objects, and are breathing and smelling various substances. I feel you cannot have environmental art without including walking.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

Genre Analysis: Three Different Voices of Retrograde Amnesia The main purpose of writing in psychology is to share existent or new knowledge in the field with a wider audience. Since many psychology-related research are conducted within institutionalized laboratories, only a selective group of people, such as researchers, research assistants, and research review board members know about the conducted research’s progress. Therefore, scientists, who obtain respectable degrees, usually write comprehensive papers dedicated to the progress of their research, while embracing the purpose of reporting their findings, whether these findings are significant or not. Likewise, some researchers report findings from several previously conducted research to have a detailed analysis of what type of work has been done in the field related to a specific subject.…

Indicator of First Essay As everyone knows, correct grammar in making an argument, a valid reason in supporting an opinion, and great evidence in confirming a reason are all important parts of critical writing skills. These essay skills were also my key indicators in my first essay. In particular, grammar was the part on which I spent most of my time for the paper, because the ability to deliver an argument with proper grammar is my weakest point. In this class, however, my faulty reading and ability to understand the story became another vulnerable point, because a literary analysis essay needs adequate comprehension of the story itself. After the first essay, the biggest enlightenment for me was that if I did not fully understand the story, I could not write a good essay, even if I had used correct grammar.…
