The Cultivation Theory was discovered by George Gerbner, who died in 2005. Gerbner was the Dean of Emeritus of the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Pennsylvania. He was also the found of Cultural Environment Movement. His Cultivation Theory believed that those who spent more time watching television develops an unbelievable reaction that the world is a scary place to live in. Gerbner also regards the television as the dominant essence within a person household. The cultivation method uses the survey research method. By using the survey method it is able to calculate the different types of data with minutes. The cultivation theory mostly relies on research to obtain different amounts of views of …show more content…
Weaver and Wakshlag used a viewing scale as a form of research. Weaver and Wakshlag had their respondent record in their diary for every crime show that lasted for an hour. Their technique was done for seven days, to help the two researchers understand the effects that are presented at that time. The reports showed that crime related viewing was measured at (KR-20= .64) and not crime related television was measured at (KR-20= .69). A lot of theorist and researchers has calculated using the summative scaling, where the variables summed were not exposed by the hour. Another particular theorist who used a scale method was known as Carlson. His scale survey method consisted of very few questions and his scale was a fairly small four point scale. His responses were summed up on a scale of; 1 = ever watched and 4 = almost always watched. According to Carlson, evidence of cultivation between sixth and twelfth graders of supporting civil liberties. These numbers held up with controls for the grade, occupation, also socio-orientation of the children.

The quantitative method is the process of using numbers to be able to calculate the percentage of those affected by television. I believed using this method would have helped me reach a lot of people within a short amount of time. The method of research I implemented for this theory was a survey. I made a survey on surveymonkey.com. When it came to the choosing a good survey website I had tested a couple to check and make sure the website is mobile friendly. Because of the audience I was targeting I made sure that the survey was convenient and also
