C.S. Lewis was a man widely known for many different aspects of his life. For most of his life he was a devout christian and religious figurehead for many people. He took his religion as well as creativity into his works as an author, writing many popular books throughout his lifetime. Not only was he an author and religious figure, he was also a philanthropist as well, giving back as much to the community as he could. C.S. Lewis was born to a small family in the outskirts of Belfast, Northern Ireland. At only 10 years old Lewis’s mother, Flora Hamilton Lewis, passed away of cancer. Kirkpatrick. At the this point, he had been following closely in the footsteps of his older brother Albert Lewis, which was part of the reason for his many moves from school to school. Lewis stays under the former college master for 3 years to be prepared for a prestigious royal military school based in Sandhurst, England. Lewis later applies for Oxford to start his career in literature only to be thwarted by the First World War. Lewis then enlists in the army and is sent to Keble College to receive officer training. During his time in service, Lewis is injured during the Battle of Arras. After recovering from his injury he was discharged and sent back home so that he may continue his college career. It was not until a year later that he decided to pick his studies back up at Oxford University. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”
