One of the most common genital problems in boys, is Cryptorchidism. Cryptorchidism is a male reproductive disorder in which one or both testes fail to develop into the scrotum before birth. Many people recognize the term, Cryptorchidism, because it literally means “hidden testicle.” Testicles are two ball-shaped organs located behind the penis inside the scrotum. Before birth, a baby’s testicles should descend into the scrotum, during fetal development. However, with an undescended testicle, the process stops or is late in developing. The most significant symptom that a baby boy will present is not being able to see or feel the testicles where it’s supposed to be. It is common that some people will confuse it with retractile testicle, which is typically normal in boys. A retractile testicle is when the …show more content…
Although the condition sounds pretty serious, there are several treatments and therapies that can help correct the testicles.
Before treating a child with the possible disorder, Cryptorchidism, it is important for doctors to diagnose and investigate profoundly the testicles. Cryptorchidism is usually diagnosed during a physical exam, while the baby is still newborn. Many doctors tend to investigate any family history related with Cryptorchidism or any other genital development problem, and ask the mother about any potential risk factors, such as drinking alcohol or smoking during pregnancy.
