Looking over everyone’s names and once again looks like old home week. Think I have had prior courses with almost everyone here. This is my eighth Cybersecurity master course and will complete my degree next year. I am currently working at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma for the DISA “Defense Information Systems Agency” as a Solaris system administrator. I have been doing this type of work for almost twenty years, even before retiring from twenty years active duty in the US Navy as a CTM1 “Cryptologic Technician Maintenance” first class petty officer. I got my first Solaris system admin job for no better reason than I have had a two week course on UNIX for a system the navy ended up never even using. Over my twenty years, I have been stationed in

Ever since I was a little boy, I have had dreams about insane technological advancement that I never thought were possible. However, I’ve seen most of it come true and I am only 17 years old. Now as I progress my life, I would like to be a part of the community that is on the frontline of new cutting edge technology. Whether that be helping to develop it or be the one to keep it protected with the expanding field of cybersecurity. Even though my parents have not totally endorsed my love for technology, which has helped me in other areas of my life, I have always been able to influence them enough so I can learn and teach myself about the new tech that is being developed in the world and how to use it with all its implications.…

On October 13th I attended Professor Ezekiel's class to sit in on a guest speaker. The speaker, Dr. Laurent Njilla is a Research Electronic Engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, NY. Dr. Njilla did not speak much of his professor as he had another objective in mind, speak about cyber security and the opportunities it presents. With only an hour to speak he quickly jumped into his PowerPoint with great enthusiasm for the topic at hand. The title of this summary was the theme of his presentation and this summary will report a few of the things he covered in the time frame he was given to speak.…

Cyber System Operations install and support systems to ensure they operate properly and remain secure from outside intrusion. They also create systems and programs to give the military an advantage in Cyber technology. This is something I want to do because I think it's really cool that you get to create programs and hacks improve the United States cyber operations. Skills wise I have none, but I could learn from my dad or from the "Cyber Systems Operations Initial Skills" course. When I retire from the Air Force I can either create tools for the U.S. government to use or teach civilians to do…

Unfortunately, common stereotypes of PC technicians and users seem to be embedded in American society and culture. The portrayal in the media and Hollywood misrepresents the true diversity in the field. After watching the introduction videos, I saw a diverse group of people and believe the future of PC will be as diverse as this class which will help combat the common stereotypes that exist. Public officials have been of little help to correct the stereotypes. During the Hillary Clinton Senate hearings during the e-mail scandal, a Senator referred to her server technician as a “dude named Ben” which contributes to the stereotypes from a position of authority.…

I want to return as a Peer Programmer because of my desire to further student engagement, and to further develop myself as a professional, student, and leader. The WPC Peer Programmer has enabled me to fulfill my desire to further the student engagement of current ASU students and new college freshmen, as well as my desire to aid students in the transition of WPC freshman to the ASU and WPC community. This semester I worked very closely with my floor’s freshman to encourage them to explore and branch outside of their comfort zones, as well as to be a confidant who is there for them. 1. Why do you think that countries like China and other poor or developing nations are havens for intellectual property theft and film/video pirating? In China and other poor nations IP laws are either non-existent or not enforced. For instance, Chinese government has no interest in enforcing these laws, since Chinese businesses hold few copyrights (and those are rigorously protected).…

My First Day on a New Job The beginning is a place where we all have to start at some point in our lives. It could be the beginning of a marriage, a relationship, a business, a pregnancy, or a job. Before I began this journey of going back to school to get my degree I did not know if I could do what was needed to finish. However, as I have gotten into my coursework and started to learn what it is to be a leader, there have been concepts and terms that I have clung on to. For instance, cultural diversity, conflict resolution, decision making, problems solving, quality, and now servant-leadership. I have been an IT professional for over twenty years, starting off as a pc technician that supported faculty and staff at OU with their computer issues at the College of Engineering. Then moving into a management role, providing direction to my team to continue to give customers excellent support, guidance, and knowledge to the rest of campus.…
